Manawatu Showing Champs 2009

January 23, 2009

Sunday, February the 8th  2009 promises to be a stellar day as we kick off the 6th Annual Manawatu Showing Champs at Foxton Racecourse.

Arohanui Hospice provides care for people in the Manawatu, Tararua, Horowhenua and Rangitikei/Taihape regions with life limiting illnesses and support for their families and whanau. At any one time it can support up to 180 patients to live as constructively and creatively as they can in the time they have available. More information can be found at

We recognize the absolutely essential nature of this service for those suffering terminal illnesses and their families, and in recognition of good served to the community we hold the show in honour of The Hospice.

The PoKnee Lady

January 15, 2009

showphoto-0171Carole Hopkins is a new sponsor with the Manawatu Showing Champs and has generously provided us with 6 PoKnee toys to raffle at the show to help fundraise for the Arohanui Hospice.

PoKnees are a large soft toy that an adult can sit on their knee and a child can ride – just like their very own pony. The concept was the winner of the 1 Million Dollar challenge run by Oprah and has since migrated to New Zealand.

Carole also has other generous tendencies, she volunteered to donate the toys when she overheard the Hospice mentioned in a conversation about the Showing Champs, she also takes a PoKnee with her when she goes to town, and gifts it to a deserving child, or a child that captures her imagination – much to the delight of local children!

$1000 Riding Wardrobe Winner

January 5, 2009

Congratulations to Sarah Thompson, winner of a $1000 Riding Wardrobe Makeover.

treesmallFrom the start of our Christmas Party (26th November)  up until Christmas day, every customer who spent $50 or more went into the draw to win a fabulous riding wardrobe makeover, to the value of $1000. Every entrant was given a ribbon to put out on our Christmas tree.

And then we waited.

ribbonOn Christmas Eve we walked out into the street with all the ribbons in a box and asked a member of the public to draw on. A young lady obliged, and drew out a green, fourth place ribbon. We then rang the lucky winner to tell her the great news.  No doubt the first time anybody’s ever won with a fourth place ribbon!

We hope you enjoy your prize Sarah.
